Considering my life as cinema is pretty easy. I was wandering along in life, a fairly uninteresting person growing up in a backwater town on a desert planet when out of the sky fell two droids...
Wait, that's the wrong movie. Okay, everything except the desert planet (desert state) and two droids falling out of the sky is correct.
I was pretty uninteresting, at least culturally, until I saw High Fidelity. John Cusack's character became the template for how I would shape my interests. I became a passionate fan of obscure music, poo-hooing top 40 with the exception of a few "curveball" tracks to keep people guessing (I'm sure you can imagine that hipster friend of yours saying "I mostly listen to indie rock, but I love Lady Gaga and Lil' Wayne").
I also started paying attention to what I wore (I don't think this came from John Cusack, it was Jack Black who said "If you tore this jacket, it's vintage, I will fucking sock your nose").
And the nostalgic idea of owning my own record store, preferably barely profitable but infinitely cool, became permanently lodged in the back of my mind.
